From Sedgefield it is 17km to The Rheenendal turnoff. Follow this road for 12.6km and take the Bibby’s Hoek turnoff to the right. You will travel on a gravel road for approximately 4kms and then you will come to a T-junction with a boom and a Nature conservation sign. This is where you will pay and sign in before being directed to the starting point of the hike.
The starting point has a memorial stone in memory of Daleen Matthee and the big tree.
There is picnic spot adjacent to the parking area with braais and also toilet facilities.
The starting point. The trail splits for the 9km and 3km hiking trails. We hiked the 9km hiking trail. The hiking trail is well marked and very shady. The path ways can be slippery if they are wet so be very careful. Some pathways are boarded.
After the 4km mark there is a trail down to the river. This can be a half ways top to have something to eat, drink and possibly cool down on those very hot days.
Once rested you can continue your hike to a gravel road. Eventually you will come to the gate which was initially the starting point of the hiking trail.
