St. Fort Country House
At St Fort you will experience Eastern Free State hospitality at its finest. The farm is situated five kms from picturesque Clarens, on 2,200 Ha of land in a stunning setting surrounded by the foothills of the Maluti Mountains. It is the home of the famous Mushroom Rock.
St Fort Country House is a sandstone homestead which offers the finest in quality farm accommodation with six en-suite luxury bedrooms and the option of breakfast or self-catering. Antique furniture, DSTV, a spacious kitchen with under-floor heating, and a lounge with log fire*, are what make this holiday destination truly unique in this area. Some families prefer to book the whole house for their enjoyment.

St Fort has the most magnificent sandstone barn, which can hold 250+ people, as well as a more rustic venue to cater for smaller intimate weddings. You, as the bride, can also choose to get married in the bush chapel on the farm. Your day is exactly that, – ‘your day’ and we wish to provide all your heart’s desires to give you a dream wedding day! Clarens weddings are magical.
For those who love to explore, St Fort offers four expertly laid out hiking trails, namely the two-day Cannibal Hiking Trail which caters for the keen and more adventurous hiker. It includes a night spent in a cave, complete with historic rock art. For a brisk morning or afternoon walk, we offer three shorter trails. All these trails take you through differing landscapes, from breathtaking mountain views, overhang caves, to river walks with numerous picnic spots, forest ambles and boulder hopping in and along gorges. The trails are well marked and provide all the amenities a hiker demands, from comfortable bedding, ablution with flush toilets and hot showers as well as a reed enclosure with braai facilities.
The main house consists of rooms 1- 3. These rooms can also be booked separately and then the guests will share the amenities (kitchen, lounge and patio).
Rooms four and five can be booked to form a unit with its own lounge, kitchenette and veranda. The other three rooms (Rooms one, two and three) form the larger unit, also with its own verandah, lounge and spacious kitchen, which has under floor heating. Both the lounges have DSTV and log fires. (Wood is not provided; please bring along own wood).

The farm has six en-suite bedrooms in total, five in the main farmhouse and one in a beautiful garden cottage.
The biggest bedroom (Room one) has a bath and shower and can fit two extra beds. All the other rooms have showers. There are two single beds in each bedroom, and these can be made double or kept single. For the cold winter months, we provide oil heaters and electric blankets. Rooms four and five can be booked to form a unit with its own lounge, kitchenette and veranda. The other three rooms (Rooms one, two and three) form the larger unit, also with its own veranda, lounge and spacious kitchen, which has under floor heating. Both the lounges have DSTV and log fires. (Wood is not provided; please bring along own wood) We also offer sherry on the house. Bookings can be made for the whole house, either one of the units, or for individual rooms.
The garden cottage has a kitchenette and double bed which can be kept double or made into two single beds. The cottage en-suite bathroom has a bath and shower. Ashtrays are provided outside the house, as smoking is prohibited inside.
