Itinerary
70 KM
Day 1: Day of Arrival
Arrive in Kleinmond around 16h00 where we have safe parking for your cars for the duration of the trail. Let us know if you need an airport transfer, or a lift.
The first and second nights included accommodation is in a beautiful double storey family home tucked into the Kogelberg Mountain Range, where our team will meet you and give you a detailed briefing on what to expect over the next five days.
Delicious soups and fresh breads are served for supper. Should you wish to upgrade your accommodation – no problem at all!
We will transport you there after dinner.
Day 2: A Beach Day (18 km)
The hike starts on a coastal path through an unspoilt nature reserve with pristine fynbos, various items of interest. Breakfast en-route.
You then head along a 12 km stretch of untouched beach where you will most likely not see another person. Beautiful, refreshing swims in the cool Atlantic Ocean along the way are highly recommended.
Lunch on the banks of an estuary with incredible bird sightings (and maybe the Rooisand Wild Horses too). Here you can enjoy a warmer swim if you would like! Back to the same accommodation as night one. Relax on the pool deck where you can look back on the portion of the route you have just accomplished. If it’s chilly, there is a warm fire inside and comfy couches. A hearty meal finishes off the day.
Day 3: A Mountain Day (12 km)
Today’s hike takes you up a mountain to an elevation of approximately 600m. This is a steep walk-in places with some scrambling. If this is not for you, there is a contour path that leads you around the side of the mountain. The views from the mountain are vast and incredible. These mountain routes cannot be done in extreme weather conditions, and our team will take you to a coastal path instead. No matter which route, you take, you will end up on the banks of a river for a picnic lunch and swim. Your next overnight accommodation is in a beautiful location on the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 4: A Mountain Day (15 km)
A leisurely start to the day after a continental breakfast and then right into the heart of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. Today’s hike will gradually climb to an elevation of approximately 350m through an indigenous forest filled with enormous yellowwood, ironwood, and stinkwood trees alongside a babbling mountain stream with many waterfalls. This is the only place in the Reserve with a forest, and it’s incredible. Once out of the forest, you walk past the most spectacular rock formations we have ever seen. At the top, there are scenic views which include tomorrow’s route. Lunch is at the top of a large waterfall.
You then make your way down zig-zag paths to a renowned Botanical Garden and meander back to your accommodation for another rewarding sunset and a delicious dinner.
Day 5: A Coastal Day(15 km)
An early departure for an exciting day with breakfast and lunch en route. Today includes a variety of attractions such as secluded beach walks, great marine entertainment, secluded coastal paths right around the point in a private nature reserve and more. The colour of the ocean around here is breathtakingly beautiful – an assortment of turquoises, greens, and blues. The day ends with a night in a secluded beach house, with dinner under the starry skies.
Day 6: A Mountain and Celebration Day (10 km)
After our final breakfast at the beach house, you venture away from the coastline, back towards the mountains up a short gorge for our last mountain summit where you are treated to a view extravaganza, which includes your journey and starting point.
A short walk down the mountain where the bus awaits and you head to a celebratory farewell lunch with our team, reminiscing on the past five days, before ‘au revoir’ is said – until our paths cross again. The bus will then take you back to your cars in Kleinmond, or on to Hermanus, or airport should anyone need.
