Windpomp to Windpomp Hike
Leeu Gamka
Support an initiative to support Karoo Farmers
Details of hike
Day 1:
We all meet at Leeu Gamka petrol station early morning to drive all together because from there we will lose cell reception.
All hikers arrive at Kalkfontein Guest House. Time to take in the scenery and area. Every evening is SUNDOWNERS and to relax taking in the beauty of a Karoo sunset.
Day 2:
Hiking starts at Kalkfontein Guest House on the Blue Wildebeest Trail (Blouwildebees roete). This trail is 9,4kms and takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Hikers will head up the mountain and arrive at the mountain house – this little gem was built by the farmer and his workers. The house also offers a hot tub where hikers can relax under the milky way and be well rested for the next day’s adventure.
Day 3:
Bright and early hikers start with one of the more challenging routes, the Klipspringer trail. Here you will realise that the best view comes after the hardest climb. This trail is 6,2 kms but will keep you busy for at least 5 hours. This is also a circular route and hikers will arrive for their last night’s stay at the mountain house.
Day 4:
After time well spent in the mountains, hikers will head back down the mountain following the Kudu Trail. For the last 11 kms, that will take up to 4 hours, hikers get time to reminisce about all the magic, peace, and tranquillity that the Karoo has shared with them. After a rest and some snacks, we will all depart again.
All the hiking routes are Green Flag routes. This is the farm and mountains where Sylvester the Lion also roamed.
