Windy Brow Hiking Trail
Pretoria / Cullinan
The variety of hiking & mountain bike trails on Windy Brow game farm is a delight for all outdoor enthusiasts, from beginners to the most experienced. The farm used to form part of the bigger farming unit of Elandsfontein where the famous Cullinan Diamond (3106 carats) was discovered.
Special features of the farm are the more than 15 species of game, and 150 species of birds present here. The three trail options, which cover various habitat zones, ensure that many game and bird species can be seen. The different zones on the network include the Archaeological site with abundant bird life; the Geological route which goes along and over the Quartzite koppie overlooking the Premier Diamond Mine now known as (Petra Diamond Mine ) and the big hole, and the Ecology route on which most mammal species, including Giraffe, Zebra , Gemsbok & Waterbuck, can be spotted. All trails have been so designed and planned that hikers can choose to walk each route from either direction, providing different visas on every occasion.
From the top of the hills, one has beautiful views of Pretoria. The Premier Diamond Mine now known as (Petra Diamond mine) and the Magaliesberg range. The flora on Windy Brow is remarkable; no fewer than 48 tree species have been identified and marked.
A conference centre which overlooks the waterhole where the game converges, called Weavers nest is the perfect location for small conferences, workshops, private functions and weddings for 85 people. Other than a big screen projector, DVD and surround sound are available in the conference room, there is also a big swimming pool, a volleyball court, a big rugby field, and a cricket field.
