Namaqua Silver Sands Trail
West Coast, Northern Cape
Namaqua Silver Sands Hiking started 9 years ago in 2008. It all began with the love and passion for nature, and from there it involved into what it is today. There are so many stories that were shared over the years around the campfire, some good ones and others that we do not want to relive. But through it all we grew with the hiking trail, step by step. We as the developers of this family businesses are proud to call Silver Sands our success story. We have done a lot to create something that all of our hikers can enjoy. Each day is a new reminder of the hard work that went into developing Namaqua Silver Sands, and now in 2017, we are so proud to put our next trail on the map, The Curlew Trail. There are no doubts that the Curlew Trail will also be the fruit of hard work and just as successful as our Silver Sands Trail. Hard work, dedication, team work and a friendly service are the four foundation blocks of this company’s pride.

6-Day Hike- Silver Sands Trail
Day 1: Get together in Garies
The group get together on the first day in a small town in the Northern Cape- Garies. From here the Silver Sands tour operator will escort the vehicles to their Base Camp. On arrival we will settle in, have some welcome drinks, enjoy a warm cooked west coast meal and spend the evening around the camp fire with the sound of breaking waves preparing ourselves for the next day’s hike.
Day 2: Spoegriver Caves to the seals
We start our first day’s hike early. After receiving our day lunch pack, we will be transported with a game viewing vehicle through the Namaqua National Park to Spoegriver Caves (This is about 1 hour’s game drive). The group will be guided, and we will cover 15km along the spectacular coast line in the direction of the Base Camp. We will be picked up after the 15km hike and transported back to base camp. Warm showers will be ready, sun-downers and a delicious meal.
Day 3: Silver Sands Dune Trail
Today we have an amazing hike through the moving white dunes of the Namaqua National Park. We will be dropped off 16km North from the base camp. This is a spectacular part of the trail with silver beaches, white granite rock formation, seals and bird life. We arrive at base camp where we will take time to relax and have a sun-downer while dinner is being prepared.
Day 4: Hondeklipbaai & Aristea Shipwreck
This morning we take the game viewing vehicle and head to the little town Hondeklipbaai. This is a 2-hour drive through the Namaqua National Park. On arrival we will take a leisured walk through the little town visiting all the historical sites and the Aristea Shipwreck. We will have lunch at one of the local restaurants and make our way back to base camp.
Day 5: Groenriver to Base Camp
This is our last day of hike and we take on the Southern part of the Namaqua National Park. We will be dropped off 10km from base camp, as we will hike back. This is also a scenic part of the trail and a lot different from the other day’s trails. This trail has less beach hiking and a little more rock formation. Arriving at base camp we will enjoy our last night together with drinks and a BBQ around the camp fire with the sound of crashing waves and beautiful open sky filled with stars.
Day 6: Tour ends back in Garies
It’s time to pack up and say our goodbyes. We head back to Garies where the tour ends.
