Kaokoveld Camino

Kaokoveld, Namibia

Prepare yourself for Namibia’s wildest, most awe-inspiring journey. The Kaokoveld Camino isn’t just another trail — it’s the mother of all hikes, the grand adventure that defines what walking through true wilderness really means.

Stretching over 200 km of raw, untamed terrain, this 16-day slackpacking expedition takes you from the remote desert settlement of Puros all the way to Otjinhungwa, a small Himba village resting on the banks of the Kunene River, Namibia’s northern frontier.

This is not a stroll — it’s a pilgrimage through vast open landscapes where the silence roars, the stars burn brighter than you’ve ever seen, and the rhythm of walking reconnects you with something ancient and essential. You’ll cross dry riverbeds, follow elephant paths, witness giraffes gently moving with us across never ending plains, and experience the changing moods of one of the last true wilderness regions on Earth.

Supported by an extremely well experienced crew & backup team, you’ll carry only your daypack — but make no mistake, this is a journey of endurance, reflection, and awe.

Walking the most diverse areas, nights are spent under canvas, with fires crackling and stories unfolding beneath the infinite African sky.

Scheduled for August, this expedition falls in Namibia’s prime hiking season — cool mornings, golden afternoons, and crisp starlit nights — the perfect conditions for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

This is the Kaokoveld Camino.  The biggest hiking experience Namibia has to offer.  Remote. Raw. Real.

You’ll have the opportunity to distribute supplies and connect with local families, adding a meaningful layer to your adventure.

The Origins of the Kaokoveld Camino

The Kaokoveld Camino was inspired by Chad’s adventures, beginning in 2016 when he walked from Swakopmund to the Huab River. Traversing the Skeleton Coast, Cape Cross, and the Messum Crater, Chadman continued through iconic Namibian landscapes like Tafelberg, Ugab River via Save The Rhino Camp, passing the Mikberg and arriving at the Huab River.

A year later, Chadman pursued his dream walk from the Hoanib River to the Kunene River, exploring the heart of the Kaokoveld with his artist friend, Stephen van der Schyff. This journey led to further expeditions: Len Kohler, Steve & Chadman walked the length of the Hoarusib river. Also, an incredible experience. Chad described this walk as one of the most incredible experiences of his life.

To ensure everyone enjoys this little luxury, we kindly ask that guests organize and share the space mindfully, keeping in mind the needs of the group.

It’s important to remember that we are far from civilization, managing our supplies requires smart planning in this middle of nowhere, the staff fridges and freezers are reserved exclusively for preserving essential food items and are not accessible to guests. However, as we eat our way through the fridges and freezer space during the journey, more space will gradually open for cooling drinks.
