The Brandberg Camino

Brandberg, Namibia

This is an 8-day Camino. We will meet at 18h00 at the Brandberg White Lady Lodge on the 23rd of September 2022. We will have our briefing and camp the night at the Brandberg White Lady Lodge. We will start walking at sunrise on the 24th of September and walk for 8 days around the Brandberg and back to the Brandberg White Lady Lodge. In the morning, is a short 6km walk and we finish our Camino around 10am. We encourage everyone to stay and celebrate our accomplishment with us. The is a range of accommodation options available. However, you are welcome to return home that Sunday as there will be time.

We will walk around 16km a day and the total distance is 120km. This is a mobile camping Camino, and we will be wild camping the entire time. The backup team will take care of all camp duties. So, you do not need to put up or take down your tent. Do any cooking or any camp chores. You carry only your day bag. We cater for Herbivores and Carnivores and our food is made with love.

The Brandberg is Namibias highest mountain and a truly magical place. Together with the Damaraland Camino this is my personal favorite place to walk. With the mountain being in a round crater shape we will see the sunrise and sunset from all possible angles. This is definitely a feel-good wilderness trail that promises to make every step an special experience.

Itinerary

We meet at the Brandberg White Lady Lodge for a welcome drink and meal. We get to know each other and have our walk briefing. This walk is not as easy as you might think. We can’t get too close to the mountain as it has a lot of gorges So, we will find a route through these areas and often camp in riverbeds or sandy gorges. There will be days where we cannot stop until we hit these areas. There are just too many rocks. However, the gods are smiling on us and the riverbeds is on average 16km apart. There Is Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhino in the Ugab and Brandberg West. So, we will stay together, and safety is of foremost importance.

It is an 8 day walk with the last day being a short day. 1st October. I have chosen to walk clockwise, and we do an average of 16km/day. I will wake you up early and we will be walking at sunrise. Breakfast is at 6km each morning. It is a fully catered and backed up Camino, so you only walk with your day bag. The Camp staff will take care of everything else.

With the Brandberg being a round mountain we will see a different Sunrise and sunset daily. We will see views of the Numas, Amis and Klein Numas gorges and of course the Ugab could produce anything. I see the springbok and ostrich are back. We will do a day’s walking up the Ugab river and walk down the Ugab terrace. There will be no moon so we will be in for some amazing night skies.

We recommend downloading a sky map app on your phone. Each 2,1m x 2,1m x 2,1m tent has two camp beds, two mattresses, two sleeping bags and two pillows. There will be an enclosed shower cubicle and chemical toilet. You will have total privacy.
