There is a central, open plan living area which has a communal kitchen (fridge, freezer, two plate gas stove, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery), indoor braai, tables and benches. Above the open plan living area is a lounge with comfortable couches, perfect for reading books or playing board games. There is also an outdoor braai area next to the lodge
Boschfontein Farm is a working sheep, cattle and game farm. The game camp is home to a variety of plains game, namely springbuck, blesbuck, red hartebeest, waterbuck, eland, impala, zebra, black wildebeest, and ostrich.
We keep a few walking routes clear for hiking and trail running. The walk to the top of the mountain behind Boschfontein Mountain Lodge provides a bit of adventure and the views from the top of the mountain are spectacular!
Other activities on the farm (upon request) include game drives, fishing, target shooting, clay pigeon shooting, black powder shooting, a tour of the Pinedene Small Arms Museum and cherry liqueur tasting.
Our neighbouring farm, Sandstone Estates, is also a working farm and is home to a private collection of heritage items including steam trains, military vehicles, agricultural steam traction engines, buses, cars and ox wagons. We can assist you with booking a Sandstone Estates Walking Tour where you will be guided around their property and view their impressive collection. Sandstone Estates is well known for their Easter Steam and Cosmos Festival in April and their Cherry Steam Train Festival in November.
Also close to Boschfontein Mountain Lodge is Ionia Cherry Farm, host of the annual Cherry Crop Celebration in November. Ionia Cherry Farm sells fresh cherries and offers cherry picking during cherry season (October – December) and sells a variety of cherry products throughout the year. Their Cherry Crop Celebration is held on the third weekend in November and they organise cycle races, trail running, live music and an indoor Christmas market.
Boschfontein Mountain Lodge provides the perfect country escape for families and friends to meet up, enjoy nature and admire the beautiful countryside.

Energy sources: solar power and gas geysers.
Boschfontein Mountain Lodge is completely off grid and uses a modest solar system. Solar power provides electricity to power the lights, medium sized fridge-freezer and the two plug points for charging cell phones. The two plug points are in the kitchen and outdoor braai area. There aren’t any plug points in the bedrooms. You will not find an oven, microwave, toaster, electric slow cooker, air fryer or hairdryer at the lodge as they use more electricity than what the solar system can support. We ask our guests not to connect electrical devices that use a lot of power.
The kitchen is equipped with a medium sized fridge and freezer, two plate gas stove, indoor braai, kettles for the gas stove, pots, pans, potjie pot, braai grids, cutlery and crockery.
There is a gravel road (about 3.5km) from the tar road to the lodge. Low clearance vehicles (e.g. VW Polo) may struggle to get to the lodge.
