There are 7 hiking trails, all of these hikes are pet friendly

The Trial Options:

Kiepersol Trail. (5km or 7.5km)

  • Duration:  1½ hours to 2 hours
  • Highest Point: 1442m
  • Elevation Gain: 251m
  • Elevation Loss: 249m
  • Rating: Easy to Moderate

Our Kiepersol 5km trail is ideal for families with young children, beginners and intermediate hikers. An add-on to the Kiepersol 5km is the 2.5km Groenklip  loop that makes it a 7.5km trail.

Groenklip as the locals call it, is a big rock covered in green moss at one of the seasonal waterfalls. The Groenklip loop introduces you to the Magalies berg so that you know what to expect if you are ready to take on the longer more advanced trails on offer and it you takes to the seasonal waterfalls.

An easy hike, that gives you views of nature and a hiking experience without climbing the mountain.

Peglerae Trail (6.5 km, 9km)

  • Duration:             3 – 3.5 hours
  • Highest Point: 1616m
  • Elevation Gain: 416m
  • Elevation Loss: 416m
  • Rating: Moderate

Named after Aloe Peglerae. These plants flower in winter between June and August. This trail takes you to the top of the Magalies right on the border between the Gauteng and North West border. What is unique on this trail is that it gives you the opportunity to be on and out of the mountain before the summer heat.

It’s a moderate trail that is most popular for families with children, which gives you a view of Hartbeespoort dam and surroundings.

It is an all-out experience, you get to climb the mountain, experience the views, see the season waterfalls and rockpools even at a beginner level.

    Dinaneni Trail (12.5km)

    This is our easier 12.5km on offer this section of the mountain takes you through grasslands and huge rock formations and old “kraals”. Towards the east where you turn near Senteck towers. These “kraals” date back to the late Iron age from 1300AD to 1820AD. Ancestors of the stonewall builders can be traced from northern regions of Botswana.

    Dinaneni was one of the most important Ndebele settlements which was situated at the foot of the Magalies mountain, close to Wonderboom and served as a military kraal and residence of the king.


      Ktatu Loop Trail (12.5km)

      • Rating: Moderate to Difficult

      The Ktatu is the more difficult 12.5km that we have on offer. Having a reputation as one of the tougher 12.5km in and around Gauteng. This trail takes you to the west past the power lines at Muizen nek closer towards Hartbeespoort. Ktatu is one of the first names for Zilkaatsnek, having been named during the Ndebele invasion during 1827 to 1837, it is one of many names besides “ Uitvals Nek” and “Nitral’s Nek”.


      Wilde Sering (15.5km)

      • Duration: 5 – 6 hours
      • Highest Point: 1355m
      • Elevation Gain: 380m
      • Elevation Loss: 678m
      • Rating: Difficult

      The Wild Sering is a day walk and is a combination of the Peglerae, Ktatu and Wilde Sering.

      Loops towards Hartbeespoort dam. You just need to add 1km.

      The Wild Seringa, Burkea Africana, has its characteristic shape as a result of its leaves which grow on branches that form horizontal levels.


      Euphorbia Loop Trail (18km)

      • Duration:             5 hours to 7 hours
      • Highest Point: 1661m
      • Elevation Gain: 785m
      • Elevation Loss: 786m
      • Rating: Difficult

      This is our second toughest trail which is a combination of all the loops. When you reached the summit you hike approximately 4km on the northern side of the mountain towards Senteck towers and 8km back on the southern side of the Magalies with magnificent views of the Hartbeespoort dam and 4km back on the Northern side. This gives 16km on top of the mountain.

      due to the high elevation this trail is popular among trail runners and hikers training for multiple day hikes.

      Named after the dwarf Euphorbia, Euphorbia schinzii. An indigenous plant which grows in crevices and hides from the sun and wind. The Euphorbia is armed with sharp spines and blooms yellow flowers in the spring.


        Brown Hyena Backpack Trail – 25km

        Day 2: 11.5km

        This is our toughest trail with an elevation of more than 1150m . This trail can be done as a 2 day backpack or slackpack trail. This trail takes you to the very end of the mountain at Zilkaatsnek and is a combination of the Euphorbia and The Wild Dog trail at the Cheetah lodge.

        This trail was built for trail runners and multi day hikers. 

        The Brown hyena is a solitary scavenger that lives in a den and is uses scent as a primary form of communication unlike other hyenas.

        Lodge Suites

        We have 8 elegantly styled lodge suites.

        Some suites sleep 2 and others 3. Based in the main lodge area.

        Glamping Tents

        We have three stunning glamping styled safari tents.

        Ideal for 2 to 6 people per tent. This camp is perfect for all sorts of group functions or for a family outing to get away from the hustle and bustle.

        Lovely camping spots available under shady trees close to the main lodge.  Please provide all own equipment.
