This splendid venue, a game and cattle farm situated in the escarpment region west of the Loskop Dam, is about 130 km from Pretoria & 150 km from Johannesburg.

The landscape consists of bushveld plains where there is a good chance of viewing abundant game, surrounded by grassy ridges affording splendid views of the plains extending towards the Loskop Dam.

The variety of carefully planned & meticulously created trails reward hikers with the very best of what the beautiful landscape has to offer.

Experience lovely bushveld evenings around the campfire and do some star gazing.

You are welcome to bring your mountain bike and cycle the farm roads. Just remember it is very rough and rugged.

We also do the occasional rustic bushveld weddings. Menu’s like braaivleis and potjiekos and a real “boere opskop”. The prices are very decent.

At Rooikrans we are eco-friendly. There is no eskom power. We do have solar who provides lighting.  Unfortunately, there are no wall plugs for charging cell phones or using hairdryers.

This is the ultimate getaway, even from technology. No cell phone reception, only on certain points on the farm.

Trails

Indigenous forest, beautiful kloofs with rock pools and cascades, shoestring waterfalls and the rooi kranses are the main features on trails. Supporting ladders, board walks and hand railings on trails.

Rooikrans has 3 circle hiking trails.  All these hiking trails take you up in a kloof with amazing views from the top. When rains were good you will see beautiful waterfalls.

Witpenskloof Blue Trail – 7.6km / 3.8 grading
Job se Kloof Green Trail – 11.1km / 4.5 grading
Draadkloof Yellow Trail – 11.4km / 5.4 grading
Witpenskloof and Job se kloof can be combined as one trail white route of 15.8 km. ( Ideal for experienced hikers.) (7.5 grading)

Accommodation

Those of you who want to relax totally, we offer catering as well. We can provide meals. Just arrange in advance. Contact me for a price list.

We offer two types of accommodation. The hiker’s dormitory, and for those who want a little bit more luxury we offer a rondavel with 2 bedrooms kitchen and bathroom.

Dormitory Rooms:

• Room 1: 11 bunk beds, sleeping 22 in total
• Room 2: 7 bunk beds, sleeping 14 in total

Communal Kitchen

Kitchen has a 3-burner gas hob. Please bring own gas bottle. Very basic kitchen equipment is provided. Please take note there is no fridge. Bring own cooler boxes or camping fridges.

Bring own eating utensils, plates, glasses, cups, kitchen towels and dishwashing liquid. Make sure you have all your provisions for your stay. The nearest shop is 50 km away. Be fully prepared to enjoy your stay

Kitchen equipment available. 2 x pots, 2 x pans and 1x kettle.

There are 3 braai areas equipped with grids. Please bring own braai tongs.
